Yielding a healthy harvest of potent, robust buds generally begins with the grow process. Oftentimes, many environmental and chemical issues alter the quality of cannabis crops.

Like humans, cannabis needs adequate nutrition to thrive. Nutrient deficiencies often occur when plants do not receive a sustainable amount of minerals, resulting in wilting and discoloration.

As technology in the cannabis industry continues to grow, new innovative solutions have risen as remedies to age-old issues. From bud rot relief to systems that prevent overwatering, here are three technological advances used to simplify the grow process.

Ensuring crops receive adequate nutrients for cannabis cultivators can be a struggle. In states like California, there are mandatory water restrictions that can result in a lack of necessary water intake. In other instances, some cultivators struggle with droopy leaves that turn yellow with Chlorosis because of overwatering.

  1. Aqutonix is a water efficiency enhancement company that prides itself on reducing the world’s strain on food and water resources. According to aqutonix.com, the system breaks down water molecule clusters to single molecules to increase water absorption in plants, while simultaneously reducing waste and increasing productivity.

A chemical free technology, Aqutonix helps cultivators reduce their water usage and reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers. With an easy “plug and play” installation process, Aqutonix can be installed in an hour or less and simply needs to be turned on during irrigation. Although a hefty $26,000 price tag may seem like a steep investment, the brand claims that customers can see a ROI within 1-2 years.

  1. Energy efficient and cost effective, LED lights have become go-to grow products as they positively affect the growth and development of cannabis plants. They can be used 24 hours a day, resulting in a quick harvest cycle. With a 50,000 hour lifespan, LED grow lights last longer than traditional lighting systems at a lower operating temperature.

There are several different styles of LED lights that can be used for different growing circumstances. Spread style grow lights have LED wattage diodes spread out over a large area on a board. Traditional panels have more compact lamps with small to medium wattage diodes. Chip on board (COB) consists of several huge bulbs that direct light directly onto the plant.

Selecting a specific LED light style depends on a number of things including the amount of cannabis plants being grown and the size of the grow space.

  1. Managing humidity is a key to yielding a healthy crop as fluctuations can result in mold, mildew and bud rot. MSP Technology’s wraparound dehumidification system offers a solution to fluctuating humidity while aiding in waste reduction through water collection at the end of its cycle. The system begins by exchanging cooled and de-moisturized air before sending it through cooling coils, where it meets with pre cooled and dried and circulates around the cooling coils, to remove more moisture. Less noisy than larger dehumidification systems, MSP has a longer lifespan than traditional dehumidifying systems.
